The Castles & Cathedrals Sportive offers riders one last challenge at the end of the season.
This year’s 93 mile ride, Castles Grande (7,893 feet of climbing) will be equally as challenging as in previous years, however we will be traveling back through Tredegar, Blackwood and Caerphilly. There will once again be a shorter route, the Castles Medio which will be 50 miles (4,631 feet) and an all new Castles Piccolo route of 30 miles (2,298 feet) for those wanting to take on their first challenge. All of the rides will start and finish at Fairwater Leisure Centre in Cardiff.
Leaving Cardiff the route steadily starts to climb before entering the Rhondda Valley. The climb over Maerdy Mountain is followed by a sharp descent into Aberdare before heading towards Hirwaun. Cycling through Penderyn cyclists then head up into the National Park towards Brecon. The second leg is new for this year, and takes riders through Tredegar, Blackwood and finishing with the final climb up Caerphilly Mountain before heading back to Fairwater Leisure Centre for the finish. There will be refreshment stops along the way with a hot meal when you return to Fairwater Leisure Centre in Cardiff.
The Castles & Cathedrals Sportive is organised by Shelter Cymru. This year Shelter Cymru turns 35. We are proud that over the past 35 years we have made a difference to the lives of about half a million people across Wales struggling to keep their homes or living in poor conditions. Any one of us can become homeless, and the money raised from this event will support more families in Wales at risk of losing their homes or living in poor conditions.
The entry fee is £30 for Castles Grande, £26 for Castles Medio and £22 for Castles Piccolo.
